HazMat Module

Ensure Safe and Compliant Dangerous Goods Stowage

HazMat Module main screen and segregation results table

The SimpleStow HazMat Module provides advanced validation and stowage verification for dangerous goods carried under the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code. Designed for container vessel planning, it helps planners identify errors, validate cargo information, and verify stowage and segregation requirements before sailing.

Key Features

Official IMDG Code Database

The HazMat Module uses the official IMDG Code cargo database, ensuring that dangerous goods information is accurate and consistent with internationally recognized regulations. Cargo characteristics can be automatically validated and completed based on the applicable UN Number, reducing manual data entry and minimizing errors.

Based on the Latest Official IMDG Amendment

SimpleStow is maintained using the latest official Amendment to the IMDG Code, allowing operators to perform dangerous goods planning in accordance with current regulatory requirements and approved cargo classifications.

Intelligent Stowage & Segregation Verification

Unlike conventional segregation tools that rely only on cargo properties, the SimpleStow HazMat Module evaluates stowage and segregation using three essential sources of information:

  • The specific IMDG Code requirements applicable to each individual UN Number
  • The vessel's actual design and structure, including:

–        Bulkheads and hold arrangement

–        Heat sources such as engine rooms and exhaust systems

–        Living quarters and accommodation spaces

–        Actual distances between cargo locations

  • The vessel's Certificate of Compliance for the Carriage of Dangerous Goods, including permitted IMO classes by bay, hold, deck, and individual stack where applicable.

ModelEditor ship profile with HazMat properties

This comprehensive approach produces significantly more accurate segregation results than generic rule-based checks and reflects the real operating characteristics of each vessel.

Additional Capabilities

  • Validate dangerous goods cargo lists against the official IMDG database.
  • Automatically identify missing, inconsistent, or incorrect dangerous goods information.
  • Perform comprehensive cargo stowage and segregation analysis after validation.
  • Display detected stowage and segregation conflicts in an easy-to-review table.
  • Interactive hyperlinks connect the detected stowage and segregation conflicts directly with both the working Cargo List and the graphical Bay Plan. Selecting a conflict instantly locates the corresponding container(s), making it easy to identify problematic cargo, review its properties, visualize its actual position on board, and quickly resolve stowage and segregation issues.
  • Export segregation results for reporting and further analysis.

Reliable Dangerous Goods Planning

By combining the latest official IMDG Code database, vessel-specific structural information, and the Certificate of Compliance, the SimpleStow HazMat Module delivers accurate, practical, and regulation-compliant dangerous goods planning, helping operators improve safety, reduce planning time, and ensure compliance with international maritime regulations.

The HazMat Module is an optional plug-in for SimpleStow, available as an extension to the standard SimpleStow license. Customers who require advanced dangerous goods planning and IMDG compliance can add the module through a separate HazMat license for an additional fee. Once licensed, the module integrates seamlessly with the main application, providing comprehensive cargo validation, IMDG stowage and segregation checking, and other hazardous cargo management features directly within the integrated SimpleStow environment.
