HazMat Module for Intelligent IMDG Cargo Planning

AMT Marine Software is pleased to announce the release of the HazMat Module, a powerful new extension that brings advanced dangerous goods validation and IMDG stowage and segregation checking to the SimpleStow container stowage planning system.

SimpleStow interface with Segregation and Validation tables

Available as an optional plug-in, the HazMat Module is designed to help vessel operators, stowage planners, and container terminals improve the safety, accuracy, and regulatory compliance of dangerous goods planning. The module integrates seamlessly with SimpleStow and provides planners with a comprehensive set of tools for validating hazardous cargo data and verifying compliance with the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code.

A key advantage of the new HazMat Module is its use of the official IMDG Code cargo database, maintained in accordance with the latest Amendment to the IMDG Code. Cargo characteristics are automatically validated against the official database, allowing missing or inconsistent dangerous goods information to be identified and corrected quickly, reducing manual effort and minimizing the risk of planning errors.

Unlike conventional dangerous goods checking tools that rely solely on generic segregation rules, the SimpleStow HazMat Module performs vessel-specific stowage and segregation analysis. The software evaluates the requirements applicable to each individual UN Number together with the ship's actual structural configuration, including bulkheads, living quarters, heat sources, and cargo distances. It also considers the restrictions contained in the vessel's Certificate of Compliance for the Carriage of Dangerous Goods, enabling highly accurate and practical segregation decisions that reflect the characteristics of each vessel.

The module also improves planner productivity through an interactive workflow. Detected stowage and segregation conflicts are linked directly to the working Cargo List and the graphical Bay Plan, allowing users to instantly locate affected containers, review their dangerous goods properties, visualize their positions on board, and efficiently resolve conflicts before finalizing the stowage plan. Results can also be exported for reporting and further analysis.

The HazMat Module is available immediately as an optional licensed extension to the standard SimpleStow software. Customers can add the module to their existing SimpleStow installation to gain access to advanced dangerous goods validation, IMDG stowage and segregation checking, and interactive conflict resolution capabilities.
